What the British regulator found

The operator paid £1.32 million over failings in anti-money-laundering controls and social responsibility. The action covered the group’s British-facing brands, not the flagship site alone.

The regulator found it had not sufficiently taken account of guidance on customer interaction, and had not enforced its own policy of intervening with customers showing signs of gambling harm. Its financial triggers were set too high to be effective, allowing significant spending in short periods.

Among the warning signs it failed to act on: denied deposits, cancelled withdrawals and long sessions. An official warning and an audit followed. A separate penalty had been imposed in Denmark over anti-money-laundering compliance the previous year.

One detail worth pausing on

Cancelling a withdrawal you had already requested is on the regulator’s list of warning signs. Requesting your money and then putting it back into play is treated as an indicator of difficulty rather than a convenience — which is why Britain prohibited the reverse-withdrawal feature outright in 2020.

If you notice yourself doing it, that is worth pausing on in itself.

Read fairly, because this cuts both ways

A visible enforcement record is not evidence of an untrustworthy operator. It means a regulator with genuine powers examined the business, published what it found, and required changes. The casinos with nothing on any register are usually the ones no regulator has ever examined.

What installing it actually requires

Permitting installation from an unknown source. That permission is not temporary — it stays on, and every subsequent file from that source installs without the check. The store’s malware screening never sees any of it.

You are also trusting that the file you downloaded is the file the casino published. A search for a casino app plus “APK” returns a great many results, and most of them are not the operator’s site.

Why there is no listing, correctly stated

It is often said that Google and Apple exclude New Zealand from real-money gambling apps. That is not the position.

New Zealand has been on Google Play’s approved country list since 2021. Offshore casinos are sometimes described as licensed “under the Gambling Act 2003 framework for offshore providers”.

No such framework exists. The Gambling Act 2003 has never had a licensing route for offshore operators — that gap is precisely why a new statute was needed, and why the Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 was passed.

Where this sits in 2026

Online casino gambling is governed by the Online Casino Gambling Act 2026, in force since 1 May 2026, with regulations following on 3 July. It is in force — not a bill before Parliament.

Expressions of interest opened on 17 July 2026 with a NZ$19,000 fee, followed by an auction and full applications, for up to fifteen licences — one brand each, and no operator may hold more than three. From 1 December 2026, operators that have not entered the process must stop accepting bets, deposits or registrations from New Zealand residents, with penalties up to NZ$5 million; those that applied may continue until their application is decided or 1 July 2027.

Licensed operators are expected in 2027, with a public register, a bonus cap of the lesser of NZ$100 or 200% of the deposit, and self-exclusion effective within 24 hours.
