These are the top 10 online casinos for New Zealand players right now, ranked by score. Each score comes from the same weighted criteria — licensing and regulatory status, withdrawal terms, bonus wagering, game range, mobile experience and support — applied to the operator’s own published terms and the issuing regulator’s register. Commercial relationships play no part in the order. Some links earn a commission, and that is disclosed on every page where it applies.
Underneath the rankings is the checklist anyone would have to apply to produce an honest list — the seven checks — which you can run yourself on any casino in about ten minutes. Use it on the sites below and on any real money casino you are weighing up. If withdrawal speed is your priority, our fast payout casinos page compares payout times; for offers, the casino bonuses guide explains what each term commits you to.

How this page ranks casinos, and what to check yourself
The seven checks
Ten minutes, on any operator. The first three rule out most of them.
Read the operating company, registered address and licence number from the site’s own footer. If any of the three is missing, stop there.
Then type the regulator’s address yourself — sites exist that look like licence registers and are not, and they will confirm whatever you type into them. Search the company name, not the brand, because one company runs many brands and the register lists the company. Check the licence is active, names the site, and covers your country.
A seal image proves nothing. Anyone can copy one. Our scam casinos guide covers the register addresses and the clone-site problem in full.
One company commonly runs anywhere from six to fifty brands on a single platform.
Search the terms for “group”, “affiliated” and “household”. Wherever those words sit beside a limit, the limit spans the family — which usually means one welcome bonus, one withdrawal cap and one compliance decision across every account you hold with them.
Claiming a second welcome offer where the terms allow one is a breach, and the standard consequence is voided winnings and closure of both accounts, discovered when you try to withdraw. And if you have a poor experience at one brand, moving to a sister brand changes the colour scheme and nothing else.
Several offshore groups have closed to new New Zealand registrations during the licensing transition, while continuing to serve existing account holders.
Attempt registration and look at the cashier rather than relying on any page written months ago — including this one.
Under 40× is reasonable, over 60× is steep, and 200× means the bonus is promotional rather than winnable.
Then ask what it applies to — the bonus alone, or bonus plus deposit. The second is roughly twice the work for the same headline number, and it is the largest unstated variable in most offers. Our no deposit bonuses guide covers how to price one.
Commonly around NZ$5 to NZ$8, and sometimes expressed as a percentage of the bonus rather than a fixed sum.
Exceeding it by any amount commonly voids the bonus and everything won with it, automatically and without warning. It is the most common way people lose an offer without knowing they broke a rule.
Daily, weekly and monthly limits are common, and anything above the ceiling is paid in instalments over subsequent months.
A capped payout is not a payout; it is a payment plan — with the balance sitting in a gambling account meanwhile. Check whether progressive jackpot wins are exempt; they usually are, but it has to be written down.
The withdrawal list is often shorter than the deposit list. Cards frequently fund an account and cannot receive a payout, which means nominating and verifying a second method — and that verification arrives at the moment you want your money.
Read the withdrawal list, not the deposit list, and note the minimum withdrawal, which can strand a small balance entirely. Our casino deposit methods page covers what works from New Zealand.
Complete identity verification at registration, not at the withdrawal. The same documents are needed either way, and doing it on day one removes the delay behind the majority of payout complaints — including at operators that are perfectly legitimate.
What changes in 2027
That ends within months.
Bonuses capped at the lesser of NZ$100 or 200% of the deposit. Mandatory deposit, spend and session limit prompts at sign-up and monthly thereafter. Self-exclusion effective within 24 hours. No credit card or buy-now-pay-later funding. No autoplay, and no running more than one pokie at a time. Age verification at 18.
Our New Zealand gambling laws guide sets out the framework in detail.
Two licence claims to treat carefully
“Curaçao eGaming” no longer issues licences. The master-licence system was abolished in January 2025 and replaced with direct licensing by the Curaçao Gaming Control Board, which publishes a verifiable register. An operator citing an old master sub-licence in the NNNN/JAZ format is describing a superseded system — not automatically a problem, since many operators have transitioned and older material has not caught up, but a reason to check the current status rather than accept the claim.
“Licensed by international regulators” is not a licence claim. Neither is “transparent with fair RNG and payout policies.” Neither names an authority or a testing agency, and neither can be checked. A licence claim without a verifiable number is not a licence claim.
Payment methods
On POLi: it works, and it asks for your internet banking username and password on a page that is not your bank’s. Consumer NZ has warned this probably breaches your bank’s terms and conditions, and a major New Zealand bank has advised the same — which affects your position if something goes wrong.
Open banking has been available here since 1 December 2025 under the Customer and Product Data Act 2025, and keeps the login inside your own bank’s app.
If you are choosing a casino right now
Do the seven checks. They take ten minutes and rule out most operators on the first three.
Assume anything you deposit before December may need to come out before December.
Verify your account at registration. Same documents, no delay at payout.
Set a deposit limit before you play, not after. And note that a gambling block at your own bank is stronger than any limit an operator offers, because it does not depend on the operator honouring it — it covers every merchant at once, and most banks apply a delay before it can be lifted.
Free, confidential support is available in New Zealand at any hour: the Gambling Helpline on 0800 654 655 or free text 8006, and PGF Services on 0800 664 262. Both support whānau and friends.
Our self-exclusion guide covers bank blocks and device blocking software, and our responsible gaming page has more.
You must be 18 or older to gamble online in New Zealand.
This page is published for information. It is not financial, legal or gambling advice, and nothing on it is a recommendation to gamble. You must be 18 or older to gamble online in New Zealand.
No casino is recommended, ranked or linked on this page, and none will be while the current position holds. No online casino holds a New Zealand licence, and advertising unlicensed offshore operators to people in New Zealand has been prohibited since 1 May 2026. The checks set out here are a method for assessing an operator yourself; they are not an endorsement of any operator that passes them, and passing them does not make an operator safe, lawful to advertise, or available to you.
Licensing, ownership, bonus terms, withdrawal limits, payment methods and country availability all change, sometimes within weeks. Confirm the current position on the relevant regulator’s own register and in the operator’s own terms before you deposit — and reach any regulator by typing its address rather than following a link, since sites exist that resemble licence registers and are not.
The licensing timetable is described as it currently stands and continues to develop. The Department of Internal Affairs is the authoritative source for it.
No casino is a good financial decision. Gambling costs money over time by design, and a well-run operator is one that pays you promptly what the odds leave you — not one that improves them. Set a deposit limit before your first deposit rather than after a losing session. Free, confidential support is available in New Zealand 24 hours a day on 0800 654 655, or by free text to 8006.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does this page rank casinos?
Every operator is scored against the same published criteria, and the scores set the order at the top of the page. Three facts sit above any score. Advertising unlicensed offshore casinos to New Zealanders has been prohibited since 1 May 2026, and how that applies to publishers during the transition is not yet settled. No operator holds a New Zealand licence, so scores use the issuing regulator’s register and the operator’s published terms. And ranked lists are usually two or three companies wearing five names, which is why every review names the operating group. The weightings are on our about page.
What is the single most important check?
The licence number, verified on the regulator’s own register — typed, not clicked. Then who else the operator runs, and whether it still accepts New Zealanders. Those three take about five minutes and eliminate most operators.
What wagering requirement is reasonable?
Under 40× is reasonable, over 60× is steep, and 200× means the bonus is promotional rather than winnable. Always check whether it applies to the bonus alone or to bonus plus deposit.
Why does it matter who owns a casino?
Sister brands share terms, withdrawal caps, cashiers and complaint patterns. Several groups apply one weekly cap across every casino they own, so holding three accounts in one family gives you one cap, not three. One welcome bonus, too.
Is an offshore licence enough?
It means the operator is supervised somewhere. It does not mean a New Zealand authority can help you or that a New Zealand court has jurisdiction. From 2027 there will be a New Zealand register to check instead.
Is Curaçao still a valid licence?
The master-licence system was abolished in January 2025 and replaced with direct licensing by the Gaming Control Board, which publishes a register. An operator citing an old master sub-licence is describing a superseded system.
Are there fake licence registers?
Yes. Sites exist that resemble registers and will confirm whatever you type into them. Reach a regulator by typing its address, and check you are on a government or authority site.
When do New Zealand licences arrive?
Up to fifteen are being allocated through a process running to late 2026. Unlicensed operators must stop serving New Zealanders from 1 December 2026, with a final cut-off of 1 July 2027 for pending applicants. Licensed operators are expected in 2027.
Where can I get help if gambling is causing problems?
The Gambling Helpline is free and available 24 hours a day on 0800 654 655, or by free text to 8006. PGF Services offers free counselling on 0800 664 262.
