An e-wallet run by Paysafe since 1999, supporting New Zealand dollars, accepted at most casinos serving New Zealand. Deposits credit instantly and withdrawals reach the wallet faster than a bank transfer.
All of that is accurate and none of it is the reason to read this page. The fees are.
What it costs
Three payment options, one company
A casino cashier commonly lists Neteller, Skrill and paysafecard as separate choices. All three belong to the same group. The previous version named the parent company and drew no conclusion from it.

Three options, one company
Most casinos exclude Skrill from the welcome bonus
Using it
The previous version’s five-step walkthrough was accurate. Register, verify, fund the wallet, select it at the cashier, enter your account email. Nothing about that has changed.
Four things to add.
- Set your wallet currency to NZD at registration. This is the single decision that determines whether you pay 3.99% twice on every round trip. Changing it later is harder than getting it right first.
- Verify immediately. Unverified accounts carry lower limits and restricted functionality, and verification at the point you want to withdraw is the most common source of delay.
- Check whether the casino excludes e-wallets from its bonus before funding, not after. This exclusion is common and it frequently names Neteller and Skrill specifically.
- Withdraw to the same wallet you deposited from. Standard anti-money-laundering practice and applied almost universally.
Where it sits among the options
- Genuinely good for: speed. Once a casino releases a withdrawal, the wallet receives it far faster than a card or bank transfer, and deposits are instant.
- Genuinely poor for: holding money. Between conversion charges and inactivity fees, a balance left sitting is a balance shrinking.
- Not suitable if: you want a welcome bonus at a casino that excludes e-wallets, or you want the protections of a bank account.
Our casino deposit methods page compares the routes available from New Zealand, and our fast payout casinos page explains why the wallet is rarely the bottleneck — the operator’s pending period and weekly cap usually are.
The legal position
The previous version cited the Gambling Act 2003. Online casino gambling is now governed by the Online Casino Gambling Act 2026, which commenced 1 May 2026.
Licences are being allocated by competitive auction running July to October 2026, with a reported fifteen available. From 1 December 2026, operators that have not applied must stop serving New Zealanders. Licensed operators are expected from early 2027, and will be barred from accepting credit card and buy-now-pay-later deposits.
- That last point matters for wallet users. If you fund your Neteller wallet by credit card and then deposit to a licensed casino, expect that route to be scrutinised — the restriction is on the funding source, not simply the final step.
- If you hold a balance at an operator that may not obtain a licence, withdraw it well before December. Our New Zealand gambling laws guide sets out the timeline.

This page is general information about casino payments in New Zealand, not financial, legal or gambling advice. Fees, limits and availability change; confirm them with the operator and your provider before you deposit. Some links on this site earn CasinoChecking.nz a commission, which never affects what we publish. If gambling is causing harm, the Gambling Helpline is free and confidential on 0800 654 655.
What Skrill charges, and where
| Where money moves | Reported charge | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Currency conversion | up to 3.99% | Built into the exchange rate, not shown as a separate line. Usually the largest cost, and entirely avoidable. |
| Bank transfer into the wallet | free | The cheapest way to fund it |
| Card into the wallet | around 0.99% on debit cards | Use debit, not credit. See the warning below. |
| Prepaid voucher into the wallet | up to 5.00% | The most expensive funding route by a wide margin |
| Wallet to casino | generally free to around 2.5% | Varies. Casinos rarely add their own charge on top. |
| Wallet out to your NZ bank | around NZ$10 flat | A fixed fee, so proportionally punishing on small withdrawals |
| Inactivity | $5 per month after 12 months | Avoidable simply by logging in once a year. No fee applies to an active account. |
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Neteller cost?
Up to 3.99% currency conversion, around 2.5% to fund the wallet, 1.75% with a USD 3.50 minimum to withdraw to your bank, and roughly USD 5 a month once an account goes dormant.
How do I avoid the conversion fee?
Set your wallet currency to New Zealand dollars and use casinos that hold your balance in NZD. Matching currencies removes it at both ends.
Is Neteller a bank?
No. It is an e-money institution regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority. Customer balances are safeguarded in segregated accounts, which is a real protection but works differently from deposit insurance — and the FCA is not a New Zealand regulator.
Should I leave money in the wallet?
No. Use it to move money rather than hold it. A dormant balance is exposed to monthly inactivity charges.
Neteller or Skrill?
Same company, near-identical products, both 3.99% conversion. Skrill’s withdrawal charge is reported as a percentage and Neteller’s as a flat fee, making Skrill cheaper on small withdrawals and Neteller cheaper on large ones.
Can I use it to claim a welcome bonus?
Often not. E-wallet deposits are excluded from welcome offers at many casinos, frequently naming Neteller and Skrill. Check the terms before funding.
Is it available in New Zealand?
Yes, with NZD supported.
Where can I get help if gambling is causing problems?
The Gambling Helpline is free and available 24 hours a day on 0800 654 655, or by free text to 8006. PGF Services offers free counselling on 0800 664 262.
